About Wellman Integrated Farm Limited
Wellman Integrated Farm Limited is set up to grow various species of catfish that thrive in the Nigerian climate and region. With a great space of about 16 hectares of land, our concentration is centered on catfish farming, growing various species that grow naturally well in the warm climate of our environment. Wellman Farms currently has the capacity of 250,000 catfish with plans in place to grow the number in the nearest future.
As a total farm development, Wellman farms has a groundnut oil and soya bean oil processing mill with the capacity to process 30 tons per day and the capacity to produce its own fish feed internally. The farm also has unique breeds of farm animals in the livestock section with the capacity to produce its own animal feeds within the farm.
When the farm started we were met with the challenge of cost of feeding our fish due to the fact that the monopoly on fish feed production were on few importers and the inadequacy of local fish feed manufacturing companies. To meet this this challenge, we restricted ourselves to a maximum of 200 thousand fingerlings, now we have installed a five tons per day fish feed mill together with a small capacity oil mill which produces ground nut and soya bean cake to meet our internal demand. We have also designed and installed a maize flour mill with a 17 tons per day processing capacity, which is combined with groundnut and soya bean cake with additives to meet our internal demand. The maize flour mill processes maize flour suitable for human consumption which will be distributed to the market for home made meals made out of maize flour.
In the process of getting our groundnut and soya bean cake, we realized that the groundnut oil and soya bean oil has an attracted cash flow of its own. We therefore set out to design and install a 30 ton per day groundnut and soya bean oil mill, to embark on commercial production and operation of the 30 ton per day groundnut and soya bean oil mill, the farm will require a working capital which is being negotiated with the Bank of Industry and Agriculture Development Bank.
Wellman Integrated Farm Limited will produce groundnut oil and soya bean oil as well as groundnut and soya bean cake to the capacity that will enable us produce more fish feed than we can consume internally in our farm. When in full production, we will only utilize 20 – 30% production of fish feed with the other percentages sold to farmers in the region. Given the support from Bank of Industry and Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme from the Government, we will not only contribute our quota by creating the availability of food in the country, we will also contribute in the area of unemployment starting with phase 1 with the employment of about a 100 staff to run a 3 shift system (24 hour operations) producing quality foods and creating employment. With the Wellman farms vision and mission, provision of top quality affordable food, the reduction of unemployment, a means of import substitute, creating access roads for the community is an achievable goal we are set out to achieve.
